The National Sustainable Biotrade Program (PNBS) seeks to take advantage of the country's biodiversity to develop sustainable and competitive businesses that promote equity and social justice. This program is a strategy to transform Colombia into a country recognized for its competitiveness in the development of sustainable products based on its biological diversity. The general objectives of the PNBS include the generation of wealth and opportunities, especially for the rural population, and the conservation of biodiversity through its sustainable commercial use. To achieve these objectives, the program is based on seven strategic lines: strengthening policies, building and strengthening capabilities, access to markets and product differentiation, science, technology and innovation, economic and financial resources, market and product information system , and monitoring, evaluation and learning tools. The main actions of the PNBS are aimed at developing a favorable political and regulatory framework for biotrade, strengthening biodiversity value chains and related institutions, facilitating access to local, national and international markets and sustainable environmental certification of goods. and biotrade services, promote research, use and transfer of technologies and innovation for the sustainable use of biodiversity, facilitate access to financing for biotrade companies and incentivize them through appropriate economic instruments, provide market information and products to biotrade actors, and support the monitoring and evaluation of biodiversity resources necessary for decision-making on sustainable use.
