Fecha de inicio: 01/09/2021

Description

The Comprehensive Development Plan for El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and south-southeast Mexico, coordinated by ECLAC, focuses on addressing the structural causes of migration through a multidimensional approach that includes economic development, social well-being, environmental sustainability and management of the migration cycle. This plan is proposed as a response to forced migration, seeking to make it a voluntary option through improving well-being and creating opportunities in the countries of origin. In the field of agriculture, the plan contemplates several actions aimed at strengthening the resilience and sustainability of the sector, which includes the implementation of sustainable agricultural practices and the promotion of agricultural value chains that enhance food security and generate rural employment. These actions are designed to mitigate one of the reasons for migration, which is the economic insecurity that farmers face due to unsustainable practices and the effects of climate change. The recommendations and proposed actions also seek the integration of agriculture into a broader framework of territorial development, where investment in infrastructure and services, economic diversification and the strengthening of local governance are prioritized.
