Description

Law No. 148 on Food Sovereignty and Food and Nutritional Security of Cuba establishes a legal framework to ensure food sovereignty and strengthen food and nutritional security in the country. This law responds to international commitments and national needs, highlighting the importance of healthy and adequate nutrition as a fundamental right. The law organizes local food systems to improve the production, transformation, marketing and consumption of food, and creates commissions at the national, provincial and municipal levels to supervise and coordinate the implementation of the law and its regulations. In addition, it establishes key principles such as non-discrimination, sustainability, nutrition, transparency and respect for cultural traditions in food management. With the aim of improving the quality of life and preventing diseases related to food, the law promotes knowledge about the right to food and establishes state duties to respect, protect and facilitate this right.
