Law of the National Seed Office

The National Seed Office Law number 6289 has as its main objective the promotion and control of the production and use of superior quality seeds in the agricultural field. This law creates the National Seed Office, which is an entity attached to the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, endowed with its own legal status and operational independence to fulfill its functions. It is responsible for planning national seed production according to the country's needs, proposing and adjusting regulations related to seeds, and maintaining records of commercial and protected varieties. In addition, it is responsible for establishing quality standards for the importation of seeds and ensuring compliance with technical standards in the production and trade of national seeds. The law also regulates the marketing of seeds, guaranteeing that any entity or person can produce seeds under the supervision of the Office. It includes provisions for quality control through official analyzes carried out by authorized laboratories and establishes sanctions for those who violate established regulations, including the confiscation of seeds and penalties for false or misleading information about the seeds marketed.
