Description
The Framework established by the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) is a comprehensive effort to address critical biodiversity challenges in the region through a series of strategies and planned actions. The strategy focuses on five main themes: the protection, maintenance, and restoration of ecosystems; invasive species management, biosafety, and biosafety; the climate resilience of ecosystems; fair and equitable access to and sharing the benefits of biodiversity resources; and the integration of biodiversity and ecosystems in national development processes. Regarding the protection and restoration of ecosystems, the aim is to ensure ecosystem goods and services through protection and restoration efforts in key areas. Actions under this theme include improving pollution management and land use planning to protect biodiversity. It also seeks to promote climate resilience, where the aim is to build the resilience of regional biodiversity in the face of climate change and natural disasters, using networks of protected areas as tools to improve climate resilience. These strategies are designed to be transformative and coordinated, seeking a strategic and concerted approach to the management of biodiversity and ecosystems in the OECS, promoting healthy and resilient ecosystems.
