Fecha de inicio: 09/12/2011
Fecha de fin: 31/12/2021

Description

This law establishes a ten-year moratorium prohibiting the entry and production of living modified organisms (LMOs) intended for cultivation or breeding, including aquatic organisms, which involve their release into the environment in the national territory. The purpose of this measure is to strengthen the country's technical capacities, develop the necessary infrastructure and generate baselines on native biodiversity for an adequate evaluation of these activities. Excluded from this restriction are LMOs used in confined spaces for research purposes, those intended for pharmaceutical and veterinary use in accordance with international treaties and specific regulations, as well as those imported for human or animal consumption or processing. This Law was extended for an additional 15 years until December 31, 2035, by Law No. 31111.
