Description

The main objective of the Biosafety Law of Genetically Modified Organisms of Mexico is to regulate activities associated with the use, experimentation, release in pilot programs, commercial release, commercialization, import and export of genetically modified organisms (GMOs), in order to prevent , avoid or reduce the possible risks that these activities may present for human health, the environment, biological diversity and animal, plant and aquaculture health. To achieve its objective, the law establishes several purposes, such as ensuring an adequate level of protection of human health and the environment against the adverse effects of GMOs, defining the principles of the national policy on biosafety, determining the powers of federal agencies in this matter, establish administrative procedures for risk evaluation and monitoring, and create the National Biosafety Information System and the National Biosafety Registry of GMOs.
