Resolution N°546 Hemispheric Initiative “Water and Agriculture”

Resolution No. 546 "Hemispheric Initiative 'Water and Agriculture'" of the Inter-American Board of Agriculture (IABA), approved on October 5, 2023, recognizes the strategic importance of comprehensive water resources management to improve agricultural productivity , environmental sustainability, and food security in the American continent. Given the challenges imposed by climate change, this resolution welcomes the "Water and Agriculture" initiative proposed by the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA), aimed at consolidating the capacities of member countries and promoting strategic alliances to improve management and efficient use of water in agriculture. Governments are urged to reinforce actions to increase water production and storage, make its use more efficient, strengthen water governance in agriculture and promote public-private investment. In addition, the request for financing for adaptation and mitigation of climate change is supported, highlighting the key role of water management in agriculture.
