Decree Law 1764 sets the standards for research, production and trade of seeds in Chile

Description

Decree Law No. 1764, updated with modifications until 1994, establishes the legal framework for seed research, production and trade in Chile. Defines seeds, varieties/cultivars, and establishes regulations for their certification and trade, including purity and health requirements. Assigns the Ministry of Agriculture the responsibility of formulating national seed policies and monitoring compliance with the law. In addition, it creates the National Seed Commission to advise on seed policies and programs. It includes provisions on mandatory registrations for producers and experimenters, as well as penalties for non-compliance.
