Dominican Republic Seed Law No. 231 establishes a legal framework for the production, processing and trade of seeds in the country. The law defines what is considered a seed, establishes a National Registry of Varieties or Cultivars for certified seeds and establishes the conditions for their registration and protection. The law also creates a Seed Department in charge of controlling the quality of seeds, their production, and their trade. In addition, the processes for seed certification and the requirements for their commercialization are detailed, as well as the sanctions for non-compliance with the law.
