The National Environmental Policy, approved by Supreme Decree No. 023-2021-MINAM, establishes the bases for environmental conservation, promoting a sustainable, responsible, rational and ethical use of natural resources and the environment, with the purpose of contributing to integral development in its social, economic and cultural dimensions. Its priority objectives include: conserving biological diversity; reducing deforestation and ecosystem degradation; minimizing air, water and soil pollution; improving solid waste disposal; strengthening adaptation to climate change; promoting environmental governance with a territorial approach; optimizing the environmental performance of production chains under circular economy principles; reducing greenhouse gas emissions; and fostering a more environmentally aware and responsible citizenry.
