Master Plan for Agricultural Recovery in El Salvador: Towards Sustainable and Sustainable Agriculture

Fecha de inicio: 24/05/2021
Fecha de fin: N/A

Description

El Salvador will invest more than $1.4 billion to recover agriculture through the Agricultural Rescue Master Plan, which aims to make the country self-sufficient in food production, generating more than 2 million jobs and making agricultural production more profitable and efficient. Food sovereignty: With a budget of $635 million, the goal is to optimize the production of basic grains, fruits, and aquaculture. Producers will receive technical assistance, technology and loans at better interest rates. One of the largest cold chains in the region will be built. Dairy plants, seed production plants and other infrastructure will also be set up to gradually replace imports. It is expected that within 4 years the country will be able to produce up to 70% of what it consumes. With a budget of over $637 million, the aim is to produce resistant and high-quality coffee varieties cost-effectively, positioning Salvadoran coffees as among the best in the world. Additionally, the goal is to facilitate credits to renew the coffee plantations and to establish a specialized institute with cutting-edge technology for production and research development. 3. Ruralization: With an investment of over $120 million, the rural areas of the country are intended to be transformed into modern, safe, and better-living spaces, thus providing attractive opportunities for young people, reducing migration levels, and strengthening family agriculture production. Each rural area aims to have more schools, clinics, police stations, sports fields, and libraries. There is also a plan to improve internet connectivity and ensure access for everyone. With these three pillars, the intention is for El Salvador to become a country full of opportunities, preventing migration to cities and turning rural areas into places of growth, development, and prosperity. In addition, the Master Plan includes short-term actions, such as the implementation of the National Agricultural Policy (which over the next decade seeks agroindustrial transformation), the creation of the Agrarian Code (to be able to grant land titles to Salvadoran farmers), the modernization and strengthening of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, and the reengineering of the state banking system (to benefit the agricultural sector more). This Plan also includes other actions such as the strengthening of the rural police, the creation of the Agricultural Education and Research Complex, the delivery of agricultural inputs and technological kits, and the implementation of the home, school and community gardens program to increase the country's productive self-sufficiency.
