Ecuador: Organic Environmental Code

The purpose of this Code is to guarantee the right of people to live in a healthy and ecologically balanced environment, as well as to protect the rights of nature for the realization of good living or sumak kawsay. The provisions of this Code shall regulate the environmental rights, duties and guarantees contained in the Constitution, as well as the instruments that strengthen their exercise, which shall ensure the sustainability, conservation, protection and restoration of the environment, without prejudice to the provisions of other laws on the subject that guarantee the same purposes.
