Description
The Organic Code of the Environment establishes Ecuador's general legal framework for environmental management and protection. It regulates rights, duties, safeguards and policy instruments related to the conservation, protection, restoration and sustainable use of the environment and natural resources. The Code covers biodiversity and wildlife, forest heritage, protected areas, climate change, environmental quality, waste management, genetic resources, biosafety, environmental incentives, biotrade and coastal and marine management, among other areas.

Forest Conservation through Sustainable Supply Chains
Technical cooperation project that seeks to conserve forests by expanding deforestation-free agricultural and aquaculture supply chains in the provinces of Manabí and Esmeraldas (Ecuador). It improves national conditions for these supply chains, introduces long-term financing as an incentive for deforestation-free production, establishes agreements with provincial governments and local authorities to reduce deforestation and restore forest landscapes, and facilitates market access in chains such as cocoa, timber, cattle, shrimp and pitahaya.
Scaling up technological innovations in family organic banana farming to reduce packaging losses and increase productivity by improving soil health – a test of continuous improvement and benchmarking for sustainable intensification
The project strengthens the competitiveness of family-based organic banana production in the Dominican Republic, Peru, and Ecuador by scaling technological innovations, promoting agronomic practices that reduce pest-related losses and improve soil health, and introducing the Ma$ Banano digital tool for farm management. It builds technical capacity and organizational strength in 12 small-producer associations, directly benefiting 2,400 family farmers involved in organic export markets.
Strengthening resilience to climate change through the protection and sustainable use of fragile ecosystems; Procambío II (ES)
The ProCamBío II Program of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH aims to increase people's capacity to manage and adapt to ecological and climatic risks. ProCamBío II is linked to other GIZ programs that have already promoted models for the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity. On this basis, the Program is committed to consolidating and expanding the impacts achieved by placing greater emphasis on reducing environmental risks and the possible consequences of climate change.
