The construction of Costa Rica's National Circular Economy Strategy (ENEC) followed a participatory process led by the Intersectoral Committee for the Circular Economy (CIEC), in which strategic representatives from all sectors of Costa Rican society were convened. The general objective of the ENEC is to strengthen the economy, competitiveness and social welfare through the circularity of all the resources on which the productive sectors depend. This entails the gradual adoption of models and technologies for the sustainable management of materials, the sustainable consumption of natural resources, the decoupling of economic growth from pollution, and the regeneration of natural capital.
