Belém Declaration – Presidential Declaration of the Fourth Meeting of Presidents of the States Parties to the Amazon Cooperation Treaty

The Belém Declaration, adopted on August 8, 2023 by Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Peru, Suriname and Venezuela, establishes a common regional cooperation agenda for the protection and sustainable development of the Amazon. It includes regional actions to combat deforestation and environmental crime, strengthen water resources management, conserve biodiversity, mobilize sustainable development financing, promote scientific and technological cooperation, and strengthen the participation of Indigenous Peoples, local and traditional communities and rural women. The Declaration also reinforces the role of the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization (ACTO) and establishes regional cooperation, information, innovation and coordination mechanisms.
