Ecuador's National Development Plan 2017-2021 is an economic and social development strategy that establishes the policies, plans and projects to be carried out during that period of time to achieve the country's development objectives. The Plan focuses on five main axes: (1) Productive Revolution, (2) Social Revolution, (3) Energy Revolution, (4) Infrastructure Revolution and (5) Justice Revolution. Regarding the bioeconomy, Ecuador's National Development Plan addresses the issue in a cross-cutting manner, as the bioeconomy is considered an opportunity for the country's sustainable development. The Plan emphasizes the importance of diversifying the economy and promoting innovation, research and technological development in sectors such as agriculture, aquaculture, fisheries, health, energy and others, to make sustainable use of natural resources and generate added value. To achieve this, Ecuador's National Development Plan proposes strengthening research and innovation, promoting investment in bioeconomy projects and creating public policies that promote sustainable development and the circular economy. It also seeks to increase the productivity and competitiveness of production chains related to the bioeconomy, improve the quality of life of local communities and promote the conservation and sustainable use of natural resources.
