Action Plan on Science, Technology and Innovation in the Bioeconomy

Fecha de inicio: 30/12/2017
Fecha de fin: 31/12/2023

Description

The "Action Plan for Science, Technology and Innovation in the Bioeconomy" (PACTI Bioeconomy) aims to produce and apply scientific and technological knowledge to promote social, economic and environmental benefits, filling essential knowledge gaps, fostering innovation and providing conditions for the strategic insertion of the Brazilian bioeconomy in the global scenario. To build this Plan, the Ministry of Science, Technology, Innovation and Communications (MCTIC) created a Technical Working Group composed of Bioeconomy experts (GTT Bioeconomy) to assist it as an advisory body. Made up of representatives from the government, academic and business sectors, this TWG helped conceptualize the bioeconomy to be used by the MCTIC, as well as in defining the thematic lines and initiatives necessary for the scientific and technological development of the national bioeconomy. This Plan is inserted in a broader context, in which there is a clear convergence of national initiatives with the United Nations 2030 Agenda, which defined the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Moreover, it is also in line with the Paris Agreement, signed in 2015, where Brazil commits to significantly reduce its greenhouse gas emissions in the coming years. Both commitments will require efforts to intensify scientific and technological development, as well as innovative solutions and new business models. In addition, given the cross-cutting nature of the bioeconomy, this Plan is related to other PACTIs, especially Sustainable Agriculture and Livestock and Renewable Energies.
