Force of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) — 2023

The Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) entered into force for Chile on February 21, 2023, following completion of the domestic procedures required for ratification. Chile signed the agreement on March 8, 2018. The CPTPP establishes a framework for economic and trade integration among its members through commitments covering areas such as market access, trade in goods and services, investment, rules of origin, customs procedures, sanitary and phytosanitary measures, technical barriers to trade, and other trade disciplines. For Chile, implementation expands market-access conditions across CPTPP member economies and establishes common rules to facilitate trade and the participation of exporting and importing companies in trans-Pacific commerce. Administration and implementation of the agreement involve coordination between the competent Chilean public institutions and the other CPTPP members. The start date recorded for this framework corresponds specifically to the agreement's entry into force for Chile rather than its initial international entry into force.
