Description
The general objective of PRONAFOR is to position the forestry sector within a State Policy, valuing and increasing its contribution to productive, social, and environmental development, optimizing comparative advantages and promoting the competitiveness of goods and services generated or produced by natural forests, protected areas, and forest plantations. For its implementation, PRONAFOR is structured into four subprograms: 1) Forest Economic Development; 2) Community Forest Development; 3) Environmental Services, Ecosystem Restoration, and Climate Change; and 4) Protected Areas and Biodiversity. Each subprogram establishes specific objectives, policy guidelines, goals, and actions for the following three periods: 2010-2014; 2015-2020, and 2021-2030. The National Forestry Program (PRONAFOR) is framed within the new context of the Forest Policy, the New Forestry Law, Protected Areas and Wildlife, and the State Policy of the Agricultural and Rural Sector 2008-2021, as part of the four Programs of the Agricultural and Forestry Sectors (PRONADERS, PRONAGRO, PRONAPAC, and PRONAFOR). PRONAFOR constitutes the operational arm of the Forest Policy, aiming for a significant contribution of the sector to promote forest activities, protected areas, and wildlife, as well as socio-economic development and the reduction of Honduras' environmental vulnerability.
