Law No. 29736 – Agricultural Productive Reconversion Law

Law No. 29736 establishes agricultural productive reconversion as a permanent and priority State policy in Peru, aimed at promoting the voluntary transition toward alternative agricultural production systems better suited to productive, market and environmental conditions. The policy seeks to increase agricultural production, productivity and competitiveness, promote sustainable and profitable activities, improve domestic and international marketing, increase producer income and contribute to food security. Its implementation is carried out through productive reconversion programs and projects that may include financing and co-financing, seeds, fertilizers, machinery, credit, agricultural insurance and guarantees, agro-industrial infrastructure, technical assistance, technology, irrigation, plant and animal health and food safety measures, market information, public procurement and marketing support. Law No. 31331 of 2021 subsequently amended the framework by explicitly incorporating climate change adaptation and expanding its scope to agroforestry systems and forest plantations.
