Description

The Guatemalan System of Protected Areas (SIGAP) is created, integrated by all the protected areas and entities that administer them, whose organization and characteristics are established by this Law, in order to achieve its objectives in favor of the conservation, rehabilitation, improvement and protection of the country's natural resources, particularly of the wild flora and fauna. Ensures the optimal functioning of essential ecological processes and vital natural systems for the benefit of all Guatemalans, achieving the conservation of the genetic diversity of the country's wild flora and fauna. Achieves the capacity for sustained utilization of species and ecosystems throughout the national territory. Defends and preserves the natural heritage of the nation.
