Law No. 745 – Irrigation Decade 2015–2025 “Towards One Million Hectares”

Law No. 745 declares the 2015–2025 period as Bolivia’s Irrigation Decade “Towards One Million Hectares”, aiming to promote agricultural production through public and subnational investments in irrigation development. The Law establishes strategic pillars for expanding irrigated land through rehabilitation of irrigation systems, water storage, water harvesting, treated wastewater reuse, irrigation technology and multipurpose projects; strengthening irrigation-user organizations, institutional capacities, information management, training and research; and sustainably increasing agricultural productivity under irrigation. Investments are implemented through the More Investment for Irrigation Program (MIRIEGO), with the possibility of mobilizing private financing.
