The Law to Promote and Regulate the Production and Marketing of Bananas, Plantains and Other Related Musaceae Intended for Export regulates the production and commercialization of export-oriented Musaceae in Ecuador. The law establishes a mandatory minimum support price for producers and minimum reference FOB export prices; requires sales contracts between producers, marketers and exporters; provides guarantees to secure payments to producers; regulates the registration and authorization of plantations, marketers and exporters; establishes inspections, controls and sanctions for non-compliance; and restricts unauthorized new plantings. Its purpose is to regulate Ecuador's banana export value chain and protect the minimum price received by producers.
