Description
Ecuador joined the Trade Agreement between the member countries of the European Union and the Andean countries, Colombia and Peru, in 2016, which came into force in January 2017. The Agreement is a comprehensive text that includes several benefits for trade between the parties, such as: opening of markets for goods, services, public procurement and investment; better conditions for trade through new rules on non-tariff barriers, competition, transparency and intellectual property rights; a more stable and predictable environment with a bilateral dispute settlement mechanism and a mediation system for non-tariff barriers; cooperation; and trade and sustainable development with an emphasis on labour and environmental issues.
