Colombia: National Bioeconomy Strategy 2020 — Bioeconomy for a Biodiverse and Knowledge-Driven Colombia

Start Date: 2020
End Date: N/A

Description

The strategy Bioeconomy for a Living and Diverse Colombia: Towards a Knowledge-Driven Society, presented in 2020 by Colombia's Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, establishes a national strategic direction for promoting sustainable economic growth through knowledge, conservation and the responsible use of biodiversity and biomass. It builds on recommendations from the 2019 International Mission of Experts and interinstitutional work undertaken through the Bioeconomy Roundtable. The strategy promotes scientific research, technological development, innovation and the creation of higher-value products, processes and services based on biological resources. Its multisectoral approach seeks to strengthen scientific and productive capabilities, create new business opportunities, diversify the economy and contribute to biodiversity conservation. It emphasizes coordination among public institutions, research organizations and productive actors, together with the territorial development of bioeconomy activities. The document constitutes a strategic planning instrument rather than a regulation establishing specific legal obligations.
