Description
The purpose of this Law on the Organization and Functions of the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation is to define its legal nature, scope of action, main functions and basic organizational structure. As of the entry into force of this law, the former Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation officially adopts the name of Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation. Consequently, any legal reference to the Ministry of Agriculture or the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation shall be interpreted as being addressed to the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation.
This Ministry is the entity responsible for leading the national policies in the matters within its competence, and its compliance is mandatory for the three levels of government. The scope of competence for this institution covers the following areas:
(i) Agricultural, grazing, forest and uncultivated lands with agricultural aptitude;
ii) Agricultural and livestock activities;
iii) Sustainable management of forest resources;
iv) Conservation and use of wild flora and fauna; v) Agricultural health, safety and security;
(v) Agricultural health, food safety, research, rural extension, technology transfer and other services related to agricultural activities;
(vi) Water resources management;
vii) Irrigation infrastructure and use of water for agricultural purposes;
viii) Agricultural productive infrastructure.
