The decree establishes how Guatemala aims to establish the right to food in school cafeterias, promoting the right to healthy and balanced nutrition to ensure that young people consume high-quality products that contribute to their nutritional well-being. The School Feeding Law stipulates that at least fifty percent (50%) of the total financial resources allocated to each educational center must be used to purchase products from family farming, provided that there is sufficient supply in the local market. After five years, the financial resources allocated to each educational center must increase to seventy percent (70%) for the purchase of products from family farming, as long as there is sufficient supply in the local market and the quality of the product is guaranteed.
