Description
Peru's Gender and Climate Change Action Plan (PAGCC-Peru), approved by Supreme Decree No. 012-2016-MINAM, is a management tool that articulates international commitments with national policies to promote gender equity in climate action. Its objective is to guide State entities in incorporating the gender approach in climate change mitigation and adaptation actions in key sectors such as forests, water, energy, health, education, food, waste and risk management. The plan is based on a participatory analysis of the national context and recognizes that climate change aggravates gender inequalities, affecting women more, especially because of their limited participation in decision-making and restricted access to rights and resources.
It also highlights the fundamental role of women in climate change adaptation, both in indigenous communities, where ancestral knowledge is preserved, and in urban and rural contexts, where they directly influence consumption patterns, positioning them as key agents for sustainable climate action.
