Ecuador: Guidelines for the Promotion of Bio-Entrepreneurship – Ministerial Agreement No. 034

Ministerial Agreement of Ecuador's Ministry of Environment establishing national guidelines to promote bio-enterprises as a strategy for conserving natural heritage through the sustainable use of native biodiversity. The framework applies to public, private, academic and community initiatives linked to reducing deforestation and oriented toward a sustainable bioeconomy. It establishes environmental, economic and social criteria for bio-enterprises, including deforestation-free production, good environmental practices, climate resilience, economic viability, alternative income generation, improved living conditions and protection of ancestral knowledge. It also provides for capacity building, institutional coordination, market promotion through the BioEcuador brand, networking, cooperation, funding mobilization, information management and monitoring. The Agreement was repealed in 2025 by Agreement MAATE-MAATE-2025-0054-A.
