Peru's National Energy Policy, established by Supreme Decree No. 064-2010-EM, aims to guarantee universal access to energy supply, using temporary and targeted subsidies when necessary. To this end, the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM) promotes projects and investments that promote a diversified and secure energy matrix, based on renewable, conventional, non-conventional, hydrocarbons, geothermal and nuclear energy sources.
Its main objectives include: promoting energy efficiency; ensuring a competitive supply; achieving self-sufficiency in energy production; reducing environmental impact and carbon emissions; expanding the use of natural gas in different sectors; strengthening the sector's institutional framework; and integrating the national energy system with regional markets, all within a framework of sustainable development.
