National Energy Policy of Peru 2010-2040

National policy approved through Supreme Decree No. 064-2010-EM establishing Peru's long-term vision, objectives and policy guidelines for the development of the energy sector through 2040. The policy seeks to diversify the energy mix with an emphasis on renewable sources and energy efficiency; ensure competitive energy supply and universal access to energy; improve efficiency in energy production and use; advance toward energy self-sufficiency; reduce environmental impacts and carbon emissions; develop and expand the use of natural gas; strengthen institutions, research and innovation in the energy sector; and promote Peru's integration with regional energy markets. It also provides for temporary and targeted energy subsidies for low-income populations and promotes investment in energy infrastructure and technologies.
