Description
The National Roadmap for the Transformation of the Mexican Agri-Food System details the efforts made and the initiatives underway to reform the agri-food system in Mexico, focusing on sustainable and healthy practices. In the area of regulation, it seeks to promote the approval of the General Law on Adequate and Sustainable Food, modify the General Law on Education for healthy school environments, implement the International Code of Marketing of Breast-Milk Substitutes, improve the monitoring of water for human consumption and the fortification of flours with micronutrients, and strengthen actions related to the use of glyphosate and genetically modified corn. In terms of coordination, the aim is to consolidate the national coordination mechanism for Mexico's participation in the coalitions arising from the Food Systems Summit, create an intersectoral coordination mechanism for interaction between government, civil society and the general population, use the Agri-Food System and Nutrition Platform in Mexico to coordinate policies and programs, disseminate campaigns to promote front-of-package labeling, implement training courses for healthy eating during the first thousand days of life, promote healthy regional eating with cultural relevance and encourage agroecological production for self-consumption and the marketing of surpluses.
