Description

President Dr. Irfaan Ali said in a broadcast that the subsidy to every household in the riverine and inland communities will inject into the economy and cushion the impacts of the rising cost of living, the funds would come from the five billion dollars allocated in the national budget to cushion the impact of the rising cost of living due to the ongoing war in Europe as a result of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. In order to cushion the impact of rising fertilizer costs on farmers and limit food price increases, the Guyanese government is reportedly purchasing US$1 billion worth of fertilizer for free distribution to farmers for use in their planting and reforestation activities. Given that fertilizers account for 15% to 30% of operating costs, the free fertilizer initiative would significantly reduce input costs and help increase production and adequate supply which is critical to maintaining price stability.
