Peru: General provisions for strengthening artisanal fishing in production chains (Supreme Decree No. 003-2022-PRODUCE)

This Supreme Decree establishes the general provisions aimed at strengthening artisanal fishing within the productive chains, with the objective of encouraging the participation of natural and legal persons in the fishing activity. It also seeks to encourage private investment through the implementation of measures to promote the extraction, processing and marketing of fishery resources, promoting technological innovation, modernization of the sector and better utilization of hydrobiological resources through fishery products with higher added value. It also prioritizes the development of extractive activities intended primarily for direct human consumption. In addition, the updated regulation states that the implementation of pilot programs will be under the responsibility of the General Directorate of Artisanal Fisheries of Produce, when previously it was under the responsibility of the General Directorate of Fisheries for Direct and Indirect Human Consumption.
