Description

The European Union has announced ¤554 million in aid for African countries in the Sahel and Lake Chad area to boost food security, which it fears could be further worsened by the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. The EU, which took this decision at a high-level event organised jointly with the Sahel and West Africa Club and the Global Food Crisis Network, thus increases the funding available for Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Chad, Mali, Mauritania, Niger and Nigeria, the most affected countries, to respond to emergency needs in these regions, as well as to improve the long-term sustainability of their food systems and address the structural food crisis in these countries by tackling the root causes of the crisis.
