The Regulation of the General Climate Change Law on the National Emissions Registry (RENE) was published in the Official Gazette of the Federation on October 28, 2014. The regulation aims to establish the necessary provisions for the implementation of RENE, which is an information system that collects data on greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in Mexico. The regulation sets out the following key elements: Definition of obligated entities to report their emissions to RENE, which are individuals or legal entities that generate GHG emissions in quantities exceeding the thresholds established in the regulation; Requirements for reporting emissions to RENE, including the information to be reported, the format for reporting, and the frequency of reporting; Procedures for the verification of emissions reported to RENE, including documentary verification, on-site verification, and sampling verification. The regulation is an important document that provides a framework for the implementation of RENE. Effective implementation of RENE can assist Mexico in meeting its international commitments related to climate change mitigation.
