Event detail:

Leveraging digitalisation and servitisation to reduce post-harvest losses and increase smallholder farmer incomes: Soaring temperatures around the world increase the perishability of farmers’ harvest. In many countries of Latin America, more than a third of the fresh produce gets spoiled every year due to gaps in the cold chain. This severely impacts food security, is cause of unnecessary carbon emissions, reduces farmers income, and forces them to distress sell for lower prices. In this context, this webinar, in accordance with common goals of the UNFCCC Global Innovation Hub, aims at providing an overview of the challenge, the solution, and the opportunities for its replication in Latin America, where IICA has extensive work with rural territories. The BASE and Empa teams will share their experience developing the solution, and one of the project’s local partners, Oorja, will share their perspective testing the solution on the ground.
