Event detail:

Plantain is considered a superfood due to its high vitamin A content, quality fiber, and its essential role in the diet of populations across Latin America and the Caribbean. Beyond its nutritional value, the growing demand for this fruit in the agro-industrial sector makes it a secure market crop for small and medium-scale producers. Its exceptional flavor and culinary versatility—ranging from traditional dishes to gourmet recipes—have made it one of the most beloved fruits among both tourists and local communities in the region. However, plantain cultivation faces several challenges, including the impact of climate change, the emergence of new diseases, and shifts in international markets. In response to this context, the upcoming congress brings together sector leaders, producers, researchers, academic representatives, development organizations, private sector stakeholders, and decision-makers with the aim of sharing the latest scientific and technological advances in plantain cultivation; presenting innovations for more sustainable and resilient production; showcasing successful pesticide-free production experiences; discussing strategies to address phytosanitary threats such as Fusarium Tropical Race 4 (TR4); and promoting partnerships to strengthen plantain value chains in the region, among other goals. This event represents a valuable opportunity to build a shared vision for a more sustainable, healthy, and prosperous future for plantain production in Latin America and the Caribbean.
