The international seminar seeks to strengthen ties between the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty, promoted by the Brazilian presidency of the G20, and COP30, to be held in 2025 in Belém, Brazil. The Alliance aims to eradicate hunger and poverty, reduce inequalities and promote sustainable transitions through its Policy Basket, a set of tools adaptable to different contexts. Latin America and the Caribbean faces the challenge of eradicating poverty and hunger while combating climate change and preserving its biodiversity. Although it generates only 10% of global GHG emissions, the region suffers severe climate impacts, such as droughts, fires and floods, which could push 5.8 million more people into poverty by 2030. Currently, 172 million people in the region do not have sufficient income, with a greater impact in rural areas. The seminar will analyze successful policies that integrate environmental conservation, social protection and food security, such as Brazil's Bolsa Verde Program. It will also seek to promote cooperation between governments, civil society and multilateral organizations to strengthen the Policy Basket, prepare a joint technical position for COP30 and facilitate access to climate finance in the region.
