USAID Caribbean Agricultural Productivity Improvement Activity (CAPA)
Initiative aimed at improving food security and promoting sustainable farming practices through increased fruit and vegetable productivity of smallholder farmers. It articulates interventions in productive technical assistance, strengthening commercial linkages with buyers and agro-input suppliers, modernization of rural extension systems, and climate data management for decision-making. Its objective is to increase market-led agricultural production, improve smallholder connectivity with regional value chains, and strengthen climate resilience of the Caribbean agri-food sector.
Platform for the Sustainability of Livestock Production in the Amazon Region
This regional technical cooperation seeks to facilitate the transition from conventional livestock practices to sustainable livestock management models in the Amazon biome, integrating biodiversity protection and ecosystem restoration with economic, social, and environmental benefits. To do so, it will foster a regional platform of key stakeholders with nodes and networks that promote collaboration and knowledge exchange on sustainable livestock management in the Amazon. It will also compile and systematize existing evidence, identify information gaps, and document best practices, lessons learned, and indicators to measure progress in sustainability. Based on that knowledge, it will produce communication materials and organize dissemination events to support evidence-based decision-making and enable adoption of sustainable practices by regional actors. Finally, it will implement one demonstration farm as a successful production model to apply and showcase sustainable livestock practices and encourage replication or adaptation across other Amazon territories.
Catalyzing Change for the Development of a Value Chain for Sustainable Timber in Suriname
The goal of the proposed solution is to catalyze a market-based approach to sustainable timber harvesting and processing that will generate economic gains from the transition from raw timber harvesting and export to sustainable harvesting and processing of timber for more demanding and higher value markets with the broad participation of stakeholders, including indigenous and tribal communities.

This presidential decree establishes the legal and procedural framework for conducting Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) in Suriname, pursuant to Articles 22 and 25 of the Framework Law on the Environment (S.B. 2020 No. 97). The decree classifies activities with potential environmental impacts into three categories (A, B, and C), defines the procedures for screening, scope, public consultation, preparation of the environmental impact assessment report, and its evaluation by the National Environmental Authority (NMA), and incorporates the principle of Free, Prior, and Informed Consent (FPIC) for activities affecting the territories of indigenous and tribal peoples. It applies to a wide range of productive activities, including aquaculture, livestock farming, agro-industry, agricultural projects, plantations, and water management for agricultural use.
Policy Development Plan 2017–2021 of Suriname
Constitutionally mandated five-year national development plan setting Suriname's policy priorities and targets for 2017–2021. Organized around four development pillars, the fourth — Utilization and Protection of the Environment — explicitly integrates climate change as a cross-cutting issue, with provisions on sea-level rise, disaster management, emissions reduction, and agriculture-related environmental threats. The plan establishes a two-track agricultural development policy, lays the groundwork for energy transition and forest protection, and provides the overarching framework for the country's NAP and NDC.
